Ever wanted to recreate the impressionist painter’s most stunning pieces? A talented local artist will guide you through an immersive atelier at the heart of 6240 Glenwood Ave in Raleigh. The goal? Recreating one of Van Gogh’s iconic works in your own way — the beloved ‘Starry Night’— before taking in the impressionist painter’s commended art in a 360-degree spectacle.

The workshop sessions will be hosted by Jaz Hicks, an emerging artist based out of Fuquay-Varina. She crafts paintings surrounding the themes of nature and her own thoughts and emotions — mixing different acrylic paints with intricate textures like fabric, embroidery and beading. Playing with lighting, Jaz’s art creates an intriguing quality that feels both surreal and conversational.
This past year, Jaz was awarded First Place and People’s Choice at Fuquay’s En Plein Air Paint Off Competition, setting the record for youngest winner in those categories. While awaiting her first solo exhibition and graduate degree in art education, Jaz kindly offers her expertise at this new ‘Paint Like Van Gogh’ workshops in Raleigh — much to our delight.
Like Van Gogh, Jaz believes “if you hear a voice within you say you cannot paint, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.” Try your creativity at Raleigh’s ‘Paint Like Van Gogh’ and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by your own artistic ability. And no excuse here, since all supplies (canvas, brushes and paints) will be provided by the exhibit.
The sessions will last 3 hours at $150 for General Admission and additional studio time will be available to those who need more time to complete their piece. A maximum of 16 attendees will be allowed per session for warm, intimate classes that oozes pure goodness. After the workshops, you’ll get complimentary access to the Van Gogh immersive experience — where the artist’s most legendary works take unexpected shapes and forms.
